We are committed to providing leadership development, academic excellence, and practical hands-on training to every student in Oaks College. Our goal is that you fully discover what ministry role God has called you to and that you are prepared to take it on after graduation!
YOUR FIRST SEMESTER
Oaks College Training Hours
Every student entering his/her first semester of Oaks College will complete Oaks College training hours. You will be introduced to Oaks culture, language, expectations, and systems. We also will complete intentional personal and spiritual growth. Finally, you will gain experience in every department allowing you to get to know our staff and the team(s) you’re interested in serving. At the beginning of the next semester, you will be prepared to choose one of the internships listed below!
The Connections internship exists to provide students with the leadership, knowledge, and experience that it takes to excel in church ministry. Our leadership experience provides students with an opportunity to observe, participate in, and lead in a variety of ministries that are vital to the growth of a church and every attendee. At Oaks Church, “no one walks alone”. The Connections department is responsible for making this value a reality! Our goal is that from the very first time someone drives on to our campus, they feel loved, empowered, connected, and supported by our church. We oversee Guest Services (Sunday Morning Experience/Volunteers), Growth Track, Follow Jesus for new believers (1-on-1 discipleship), Salvation & Baptism, Membership, and Communion.
If you are interested in any aspect of church ministry, pastoral leadership, or church planting, Oaks Connections is a good fit for you!
2. Creative + Worship
The Oaks Creative team is committed to growing in our relationship with God, our relationship with others, and in our ability to lead others to Jesus. Our staff brings national level industry experience combined with an excitement about pouring into future church creatives. Every student, whether interested in worship or production, will learn every aspect of the creative department to be the best prepared for a future ministry position within a church.
If your focus is on worship, you will also gain experience in planning music for our church services, singing, praying together, and making music together. Our goal is to send out leaders who have resumes and portfolios that represent significant abilities and accomplishments.
One of the most effective ways to build life-changing relationships and experience discipleship is through small groups. Our team seeks to provide opportunity for community change outside of the Sunday morning experience. As an intern, you will develop curriculum, disciple group leaders, assist with men’s and women’s ministry events, and learn how data is a vital part of any system. If you have a heart for connecting community and training leaders, the groups department is a great place to serve and learn!
We would love for you be part of Oaks Kids working with us as we help develop the next generation. Because kids are important to God, they are important to Oaks Church and ages 4 through 14 are some of the most vital years in a person’s development. As an intern, you will work with our team to learn everything it takes to run a kids ministry of over 800 students a week. We focus on leadership development, and our goal is to prepare you with real world ministry experience.
The Oaks Kids ministry team has over 60 years of combined ministry experience. We get calls from major churches every week looking for a kids pastor; someone who will give their life to disciple God’s children. We offer the opportunity to work in every facet of kids ministry including production, volunteer development, curriculum building, and big events.
5. Powerhouse (After-School Ministry)
Powerhouse evangelizes to over 700 students across five campuses in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through our after-school ministry. The Powerhouse Internship is a perfect place for those who love evangelism and want to learn how to strategically build relationships in businesses and educational organizations while presenting the gospel to elementary, middle school, and high school students every day through devotions, weekly chapel services, outreach, and much more!
The Oaks Youth leadership experience is designed to train and develop interns to become effective pastors that will lead healthy student ministries. In this internship, you will be fully immersed in the trenches of student ministry from leading a small group to the production of a service, discipleship, project management, advertising, guest services and big events. If you choose to be in the Oaks Youth internship and go through the process of training, our commitment is that you will be fully prepared to step into any role of ministry upon graduation.
7. Oaks College
Students can choose to intern with our Oaks College staff and learn how the academic, church, and business worlds are able to blend uniquely and effectively to accomplish the Great Commission. Students will learn the importance of professionalism, excellence in academics, stewardship, discipleship, effective interpersonal communication with leaders/peers, service production, and event planning start to finish. Upon graduation, you will have attained the skills necessary to navigate a variety of leadership opportunities and roles.
